merchandise trans-shipped in Japan instead of Hongkong amounts, as far as can be ascertained, to between 1,000 and 2,000 tons annually, the Canadian produce being principally Salmon and Lumber. It is anticipated however that, if the French Government could see their way to grant the concession asked for upon the conditions suggested, this Colony would benefit by the trans-shipment here
of a considerable amount of merchandise en route to Trance from
Canton and other ports of the Far East, without detriment to the
French revenues.
